PARADOX COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
NETWORK
1. During processing of a simple query, I continue to get the
error message "Resource limit exceeded: Not enough disk
space to complete operation -- Leaving Paradox."
You probably have your private directory set to a local
hard disk such as C:\ and truly do not have the disk space
required to process the current query. Change your
private directory to a directory on your network and retry
the query. Also, you should have between two and three
times the size of your table in free disk space.
2. After installing Paradox and trying to start the program,
I get the error message "Cannot record lock/unlock of
F:\PDOXDATA\PARADOX.NET -- You may have insufficient
rights."
a. This is usually caused by the lack of proper rights to
the directory in which the user told Paradox to place the
net file. On a Novell network, the user may not have
mapped, in this example, the F:\ drive to the correct
directory.
b. Try Nupdate and specify F:\PDOXDATA as PARADOX.NET
file location.
c. Check for stray .LCK files and remove.
3. I just purchased Paradox 3.0 and have .CFG files from
Paradox 2.0. Do I have to run CUSTOM for each user all
over again for Paradox 3.0?
Yes, since new information is being recorded under version
3.0 of Paradox, such as each individual user's color
selections. You can, however, create a single .CFG that
meets most users' needs and copy that file to each user's
private directory.
4. What can I do to run more than one user in Paradox 386 on
my network?
Purchase a LAN pack and complete the installation for
Paradox to access data on a network. Provide both the
serial number from the 386 package and the serial number
from the LAN pack.
5. Do I have to start Paradox from my private directory?
Yes, this is important. Starting from your private
directory allows Paradox to find the correct .CFG file for
each user.
6. Are there any plans to support other networks such as OA
Net, Promise LAN, MS-Net, and Ten Net?
At this time we have not announced any new network
compatibility solutions. If the network you plan to use
is 100% compatible with any network we do support,
generally you should have no problem. However, WE DO NOT
SUPPORT any network that is not listed. See #1.
7. I keep running out of disk space. Why?
You may be logged into the wrong private directory. Use
<T>ools, <N>et, <S>etpriv.
8. How can I get Paradox to start up with the shared
directory as my working directory?
Set the <D>efaults, <S>et Directory in the CCP to the
logical drive/directory of the shared data directory.
9. Can I access files on the network from my stand-alone
version?
By installing your stand-alone as a one user network (by
running NUPDATE), you can access data on directories not
controlled by Network Paradox.
10. Why can't I get into the same data directory as I was
using yesterday?
Make sure nobody is using Paradox on the network, then go
into that directory and delete any files with the .LCK
extension.
11. Graphs are not displaying and I get the message "Unable to
locate proper screen drivers to display graph." Why?
Check path statement to include Paradox, or move all BGI
drivers.
